Affordable Photography Courses around Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent

Illuminate provide affordable and enjoyable photography training courses to small groups and individuals. We have a high ratio of trainers to delegates so we can give each individual the attention they need to help develop their camera skills. We run training courses at a number of venues around Staffordshire including the Wolseley Centre (courses run in partnership with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust), Jackson’s Coppice near Eccleshall, Cannock Chase at Brocton, and the Peak District. We hand pick our course venues to ensure great facilities plenty of interesting places to photograph.

Starting out as a photographer can be expensive, with everyone trying to sell you the latest camera, lens or accessory. Our aims aren’t to encourage you to spend a small fortune on new equipment, but to help you improve your skills using the equipment you already own.

Based in Stafford we run courses around the Staffordshire area, as well as residential courses further afield. We also provide one-to-one art and photography training. We run some courses in partnership with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust at their Wolseley Centre, located between Stafford and Rugeley and on the edge of Cannock Chase.

If you’re just starting out in photography we recommend our popular “Improve Your Photography” course. This beginners course is ideal if you are looking to move away from the automatic settings on your camera and start exploring the creative options if offers.

In addition to our camera skills courses we also teach photo editing using Photoshop Elements. We look at how to manage your photo library, how to process RAW images, working with layers and selections and how to retouch your photographs.

From time to time we also run courses on more specific subjects, including portrait photography, landscape photography, photographing pets and working with flash, both in the studio and on location. We also run occasional group expeditions, such as bluebell walks in the spring or trips out to local woodland to take in the autumn colours. These trips out don’t include any formal tuition but have our tutors on hand to help out if you need advice.

Our trainers come from a variety of backgrounds allowing us to have an excellent range of specialist photographic knowledge on hand to help answer any questions. Between them they use (or have used) the majority of major camera systems including those from Canon, Nikon and Fuji.
